Carlow selector Tom Wogan has declared that they wish Brendan Murphy all the best on his travels.

Murphy has caused a massive surprise in GAA circles by announcing that he will play football in the U.S this summer. His decision rules him out of action for Carlow in this year's championship.

Any other year, not an eyebrow would be raised by Murphy's decision, but the fact that the county gained promotion from Division Four and there are high hopes that they can put a run together in the championship has certainly taken the county's supporters by surprise.

Despite the move coming out of the blue, Wogan stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that the management and squad respect the player's decision.

"It isn't a problem," said Wogan. "He is a young man and is entitled to go. Management don't have a problem with that.

"It was a decision he had to make himself and he made it. We wish him well. There are no issues. It is one of those things which is happening in a lot of counties and you cannot blame him in any way."
