DJ Carey's son Sean was in sparkling form for his club Young Irelands in the Kilkenny IHL on Saturday.

The 20-year-old, who won an All-Ireland IHC medal with the Cats last year, scored 1-13 from wing forward to help the Gowran men to a 1-22 to 0-17 victory over Mooncoin in the first round encounter in Callan. According to the Kilkenny People, Carey produced a near-flawless display, failing with just two attempts at the target.

His goal came after 13 minutes when he ran onto a pass from Paul Delahunty and fired home from 20 metres.

Sean's younger brother Michael was full back on the Kilkenny minor team that was pipped by Galway in last year's All-Ireland semi-final.
