Carlow coach Steve Poacher is adamant that Waterford manager Tom McGlinchey is playing 'mind games' ahead of Saturday's NFL Division Four clash between the sides.

Last week, McGlinchey spoke out about the standard of refereeing in the lower divisions and urged the GAA to appoint the top referees in the country to some of the Division Three and Four league games.

However, Poacher feels that McGlinchey's comments were timed ahead of this weekend's clash between the sides at WIT Sports Grounds, to put added pressure on the match officials.

"I think there is kidology and playing mind games by putting pressure on officials. I know what he is doing. I think the standard of referees in Division Four has been very good," Poacher told the Carlow Nationalist.

"We are going OK. We have done nothing yet. We have won three games in a row so obviously if we win this one, we can go top of the league for the first time. We can put a bit of pressure on Laois and Antrim."
