Roscommon's Mark Nally is surrounded by Mayo's Jason Doherty and Donal Vaughan

Former Roscommon forward Mark Nally has joined up with the Longford football squad for 2018.

The Roscommon Gaels clubman could feature for the Midlanders in their O'Byrne Cup semi-final against Meath this weekend after having declared for his parents' home county.

Nally played U21 for the Rossies and made three championship appearances at senior level in 2014. The 24-year-old is set to continue playing with his native club.

Longford manager Denis Connerton told The Irish Times: "We've been looking at Mark's performances for quite a while now, and we knew about his connections and that he hasn't been involved with Roscommon.

"So we asked him in, and he obliged. He's a big lad, and he'll be with the team on Sunday."
