Death of former Derry manager Frankie Kearney

November 24, 2017

The late Frankie Kearney.

Derry GAA is mourning the passing of Frankie Kearney after a short illness.

The Watty Graham's, Glen clubman managed the county to back-to-back Ulster SFC titles in 1975 and '76 respectively. They defeated Down in the 1975 decider before retaining the Anglo-Celt Cup at Cavan's expense the following year.

Frankie was also the inspiration behind the Oak Leaf crest which he designed in 1976 and later patented, and which continues to adorn the Derry GAA jersey today.

The father-of-four and retired school principal will be laid to rest following Requiem Mass in St. Patrick's Church, Glen tomorrow morning.

May he rest in peace.
