Former Limerick footballer Pa Ranahan is the new Football Development Officer in the county.

Ranahan had a distinguished career in the green jersey as the Ballysteen man made his championship debut under Mickey Ned O'Sullivan in a Munster SFC clash against Cork in 2007.

The 2016 campaign was his last when Limerick went down to Cork by 2-12 to 0-10 in round 2 of the All-Ireland football qualifiers.

The 34-year-old now takes up the role of Football Development Officer and Limerick chairman Oliver Mann stressed to the Limerick Leader that it was good to have a player of his calibre involved at county board level.

"It's nice to see someone of the calibre of Pa Ranahan coming on board as Development Officer. Pa has given great service to Limerick as a player and it's great to see him getting involved," said Mann.

"I have spoken to him and he has ideas and will be very anxious to get those ideas across and implemented."
