Feenan, Frank

October 30, 2007
The death has taken place of Frank Feenan at his home in Tullyherron, Whitecross at the age of 85. A native of Mountnorris, he came to live in the farm in Tullyherron at an early age and, all his life, frank has been a respected and popular member of the community. Born in 1922, he first went to work at the Mercy Convent Bessbrook at the age of 14 and family members recall that he was paid by the nuns with a young calf, not a bad way to begin a farming career. He was totally dedicated to his work and his family and his wife Elizabeth celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in July. Chief among his outside interests, was the Armagh senior football team which he followed and supported from the thirties. In fact the last game he ever attended was the All Ireland final of 2002 when the Sam Maguire was finally won by Armagh. It was only fitting that such a dedicated supporter had a good seat in the Hogan Stand for that famous game. Almost half a century previously, he attended the All Ireland of 1953 where his future brother-in-law Gene Morgan was corner back. Sadly, a few weeks after Armagh's All-Ireland success in 2002, Frank suffered an aneurysm which resulted in an illness that afflicted his health until his death last Thursday. Frank Feenan was very dedicated to the church and looked after the graveyard map and everything pertaining to ground in the local cemetery. He also took the various new clergy around the parish so that they could do their sick calls as he knew all the people and where they lived. The wake and funeral were among the largest in the parish for some time. The requiem Mass was said on Saturday last in Tullyherron Chapel by Fr Michael Toner and interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (nee Quinn) a native of Ardboe, Co Tyrone, children Mary, Brigid, Catherine, Joseph, Monica, Jim and Frances, brother Fr Jim Feenan, Australia and sister Mrs Mary Boyle, Warrenpoint. To these and the entire family circle we extend our sympathy at this time. Courtesy of the Armagh Examiner. 23 October, 2007.
