Makem, Tommy

Keady Michael Dwyers deeply regret the death of legendary folk singer, Tommy Makem, who died earlier this week. While renown for his tremendous contribution to music in Ireland and abroad, the club remembers that, 60 years ago, Tommy Makem was a member of the victorious Keady Dwyers team that won the first ever Armagh Minor Football Championship in 1947, defeating Wolfe Tones 1-13 to 0-00 in the final.
This team included some fantastic footballers such as Joe Mee, who became a Keady great winning two Senior Club Championships and playing county football at all levels and Dr. Pat O'Neill, who became Armagh Captain and was a player of great note. The team was managed by Geordie Potter. In the picture that survives, Tommy Makem is sitting one from the right in the front row.
