Moley, Mickey

January 23, 2007
The late Mickey Moley Dorsey Emmetts would like to extend their sympathies to the Moley and McCreesh Families and their entire family circle on the death of Mickey Moley, Drumalt Road. Mickey will be sorely missed by everyone connected with the Club as he was a true Emmett to the very core. Fifty years ago he played a prominent role with the last Dorsey Emmetts team, a committed and talented player it was with a heavy heart that he watched his Club fade away in the early 1950s as emigration and a declining rural population began to take its toll on the community. When the Emmetts reformed in 2000 the whole community got behind the club and there was a buzz in the air as some of the former players watched as a new generation took an active part in the Club. Indeed Mickey's son, Aidan, has been one of the leading lights in the underage structure in the Club and had gone on to act as the Dorsey Emmetts' South Armagh Board Representative and Chairman of the underage sub-committee, his daughter in law Maureen is Secretary of the Underage sub-committee. His grandchildren Aoibheann, Connor and Brendan Moley as well as Shane and Ryan McCreesh all play at underage level. It surely was with great pride that Mickey watched his grandchildren on the under-14 team battle their way to the final of the Burns-Moley Blitz and than eventually win it on the 29th of October 2006. It is hard to imagine the loss of one of our links to the old Emmetts teams of the forties and fifties, it was only back in November 2006 that Mickey was one of the proud members of that team that was honoured at our Dinner-Dance. Mickey will always be remembered fondly as a warm and enthusiastic Dorsey Emmetts' Gael, always with a keen interest in the advancement of the club and with a gleeful pride in the growth of the club. We will all surely miss his presence. Courtesy of The Armagh Examiner 23 January 2007
