McCarten, Arthur

June 30, 2005
The Late Arthur McCarten Mr Arthur McCarten of Carrickaness Road who died recently on his 78th year had been in community activist in the Tullysaran area for many years and continued to be so despite recurring health problems. He was very much involved in parish, community and sporting life and was forever at the ready to offer his services in all ways possible to promote and enhance the good name of Tullysaran. When the O'Connell's football club was reformed in the 70's he played a leading role and members of the club formed a guard of honour at his funeral as a mark of respect to an outstanding Gael and Club ambassador. Arthur was involved in so many strands of community life, not least music and drama and was always at home in concerts and played performed locally to raise funds. He was a man who had so much to offer, so unselfish in his ways and was always turned to for advice and direction. He was an exemplary husband and wife and the loss of his wife Irene (nee MsSorley) and large family will be incalculable and sorely felt. He will long be remembered as a great contributor to the life of this closely-knit family orientated community which he served so naturally and with such zest and enthusiasm. To his sorrowing wife, children Colum, Cormac, Conor, Enda, Maeve, Deirdre, Una and Aisling (twins), Eimear, Grainne, grandchildren, brother Joe and sisters Maura and Kathleen, and extended family circle, deepest sympathy is extended. The largely attended funeral took place to the church of the Immaculate Conception, Tullysaran, where Requem Mass was celebrated by Fr Sean McCartan. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. Funeral arrangements by JJ McArdle & Sons Armagh. Courtesy of the Armagh Observer 16th June 2005
