Short, Paddy

May 03, 2005
The Late Paddy Short The death has taken place at Daisy Hill Hospital of Paddy Short one of South Armagh's best known personalities. He had been in ill health for some time. Paddy was central a figure in the community for many years and a prominent player with Rangers and lifelong supporter of both club and county. His pub became a focal point where TV crews, broadcasters and celebrities from all over the world came to find "the pulse" of South Armagh and the ever articulate Paddy was on programmes and the subject of interviews in many countries. His commitment to the GAA was inherited by his family and his son Aiden played for Armagh and QUB in the eighties. Tom McKay said Paddy would be very much missed in the community and the club and that he had contributed to the overall well being of Crossmaglen down the years, Paddy was the uncle of the well known Labour MP Clare Short. The funeral mass took place in Crossmaglen Chapel and interment afterwards at St Brigid's cemetery, Glassdrummond. He was predeceased by his son Sean Gerard and is survived by his wife Rosaleen and children Mary, Margaret, James, Patrick, Oliver, Aiden and Cillian and sister Clare. To these and to the entire family circle we extend our condolences at this time. Courtesy of the Armagh Examiner 3rd May 2005
