JOSEPH O'ROURKE
The light has gone out in one comer of our community, another footballer from our past has gone to his eternal rest. God needed a member for his team, needed a player to fill in his left-half slot, and where else could he look but in Belleek.
It is with great regret that we at the Belleek St Laurence O'Toole's football club learned of the untimely death of one of our former footballers Joseph O'Rourke. Joseph O'Rourke, known lately as the man with the hat, was an exceptional footballer, came from a well respected family, was a
member of the Belleek team that took to the field in Forkhill in 1984, turning in a Man of the Match performance at left half back.
Joseph O'Rourke as a footballer had no peers, he was special, there was so much quality about his football, tremendous ability to read the play, never shouted at officials, never lost the rag, never got frazzled, never got involved in the nasty part of the game, he just didn't have to.
Over the last number of years Joseph kept himself more to himself, but was never one to ignore anyone, always had a welcome for anyone who he came upon.
It Is a sad time for the Belleek community, Joe O'Rourke will always be remembered with fond affection by all who knew him, whether it was socially or from a football angle. All at the Belleek Club and community express their sympathies to his family and wider family circle, to his family, of daughters Linda, Lisa, Joanne, Sonya and Brenda, to his sister Lucy and brothers Patrick and Mickey, and his nephew Raymond who is a present member and who also played for the Belleek Football club, to them we send our heartfelt sympathies. May Jesus and his Most Holy Family hold him close to his most Sacred Heart.
