Tennyson, Patrick Joseph
March 12, 2009
The passing of Mr Patrick Joseph Tennyson, 3 Gortavon Park, Coalisland has united in grief the counties of Tyrone and Armagh and the communities of Coalisland and Maghery.
In his 67th Year, Al as he was affectionately known to one and all passed away at his home after a long battle with illness. A man who left a great legacy of memories for both the Coalisland and Maghery communities who will remember Al as a great gentleman in every sense of the word.
A native of Maghery, Al touched so many throughout his lifetime. A man biassed with a great sense of humour, wit and charm, he loved the company of his family and vast amount of friends. Al always had a story to suit every occasion, his great knowledge made him great company for young and old alike, his easy going attitude and ability to treat everyone with the same respect his outstanding hallmarks.
Pre-deceased by his first wife Peggy with whom he spent over 30 very happy years in 1992, the couple were blessed with three children, Denise, Sean and Alphonsos.
Al later met and married Coalisland lady Pauline O'Neill in 2000 and the couple enjoyed a loving relationship with Pauline and his stepchildren, Nicola, Noleen, Linda and Brian.
A man who loved sport, Al's great passion was the GAA, a lifetime of service to Maghery Sean McDermotts with whom he spent a couple of stints as manager of the 'B' team who had many successes under his leadership. A keen follower of the fortunes of Armagh in 2002, he like so many followers of the Orchard County was present to live the dream when Armagh won their first All-Ireland and 12 months later was first to congratulate his Tyrone friends as they enjoyed the same experience. His love of the GAA saw Al travel to many games throughout the country.
A valued employee of Derryland Nurseries for over 50 years, his loyal service made Al a popular colleague and friend. The passing of Al Tennyson will be missed by many and will leave a great void for the Tennyson/O'Neill and extented families as well as the Coalisland/Maghery communities.
The remains of the deceased were removed from his late residence to The Church of the Holy Family where Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Johnny Burns, Coalisland.
Members of Maghery Sean MacDermotts formed a guard of honour as the remains of the late Al Tennyson made their final journey and the coffin was draped with the club colours.
The funeral cortege reflected the esteem with which the deceased and his family are held in the local community and beyond. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery of S.S. Mary and Joseph.
To his sorrowing wife Pauline, sons Alphonsos and Sean, daughter Denise, stepchildren Nicola, Linda, Noleen, Brian, brothers Eamon, Francie, John Joe, Gerard, Kieran, Liam, sisters, Kathleen Anne, Louise and large family circle, deepest sympathy is extended.
