Games week in, week out are what inter-county players like Meath star Graham Reilly want.

The Royal County were disappointed to leave Ballybofey empty handed last Saturday night but Reilly and his team-mates will get the opportunity to make amends for that when they play host to Armagh at Pairc Tailteann in round 3 this Sunday (2pm).

“That’s the beauty of the league,” the St Colmcille’s clubman said. “You have seven games in nine weeks. Obviously, we’ll review the Donegal game but that’s it. Our target is Armagh on Sunday and it’s a must win.”

He continued: “The more games you play the better. The league is a brilliant format. Seven games in nine weeks is perfect. If you ask every inter-county footballer they will say they want to play week in, week out.

“Division 2 is very competitive. 10 points seems to be the magic number. If you get to 10 points you seem to get promoted. I know in recent years we finished on 8/9 points and just missed out.

“In a way you can afford to lose two games and still get promoted. That’s obviously not ideal and not what you want but, as I say, going into this Sunday, we must win our home games, we have four home games and must win them all.”

The Orchard County – who also have two points from a possible four after two rounds - will pose a serious threat to the Royal County’s ambitions of keeping their promotion hopes alive.

“You know what you are going to get from Armagh,” he stated. “They are going to be physical, they play a good brand of football and have some classy forwards. If we’re not up for it mentally and physically they will dominate us.

“The way things are shaping up it looks like Donegal might stay up around the top so probably most teams are going for that second position. It really is a four pointer for both teams. Armagh were unlucky not to win against Clare.

“Other results went our way a little bit at the weekend but it’s all about us and how we prepare for Armagh and get ready for another battle.”
