Crossmaglen captain Aaron Kernan says improvement will be required if the Armagh kingpins are to reign in Ulster again.

Back in the provincial arena for the first time since 2015, the Rangers edged out Coalisland on Saturday night to qualify for a provincial semi-final against Gaoth Dobhair.

"I think both the old and the new players within the side have lessons to take from this game," the former Armagh star told the Belfast Telegraph. 

"We have guys in there who are gaining in experience and obviously this was a tough battle for us all.

"We got over the line in the end but we can learn from the experience. The Ulster club championship is a tough arena with a number of good sides in there and we know that we have room for improvement. We will have to show this if we are to make further progress."

He added: "When we won the Armagh championship title last month it meant the end of two years in the wilderness for us but now that we are back on the Ulster stage we have to show that we are capable of competing with the best teams. Coalisland certainly made things very tough for us and we have to show a step up in performance if we want to get more success."
