Westmeath are back in Joe McDonagh Cup contention courtesy of an impressive 0-29 to 0-21 victory over Antrim at Dunloy today.

After last week’s heroics against Offaly, the Saffrons were brought back down to earth by the Lake County who bounced back from the disappointment of their defeat to Kerry last time out in fine style.

The disappointed hosts finished with 13 men and the result leaves them on two wins and two defeats at the end of their participation in the group stage.

Neal Peden’s side could still mathematically qualify for the final if results elsewhere go their way next weekend but it is a long shot.

Joe Quaid’s charges hit the ground running and were 0-15 to 0-9 ahead on the scoreboard when the half-time whistle was sounded.

Killian Doyle was responsible for all bar four points of his side’s first-half tally and finished with 0-17 to his name.
