Quaid: Antrim are no one-man team

Westmeath manager Joe Quaid says there is a lot more to Antrim than Neil McManus.

The long-serving Cushendall sharpshooter posted 0-10 as Neal Peden's men made light of full back Martin Burke's early dismissal to beat Offaly last Saturday, but Quaid stressed to the Irish News that the Saffrons aren't a one-trick pony.

“McManus is the focal point - no-one is doubting the hurler he is, but he doesn't win these matches on his own, he doesn't win every ball," the former Limerick goalkeeper said ahead of tomorrow's crucial Joe McDonagh Cup clash in Dunloy.

“You need your marquee players, but you need other lads to step up. I watched their game against Offaly last week and I thought Nigel Elliott was just superb, he terrorised the Offaly defence.

"They're a serious outfit, got serious forwards. Neil maybe takes the plaudits but we won't just be concentrating on him at the weekend.”
