Armagh proved too strong for Antrim at the Athletic Grounds

Armagh 1-14
Antrim 1-9

Armagh secured a Round 1 victory in the Ulster minor football championship qualifiers this evening after seeing off Antrim in relative comfort at the Athletic Grounds.

Mark McKeever’s goal nine minutes in helped the Orchard men, whom lost out Derry last weekend, control this contest as they went in leading at the break on a commanding 1-10 to 0-4 score-line.

To their credit, the visitors turned it around after the restart and propelled themselves into contention once Calum Higgins fired in their goal on 39 minutes.

Points from Caolan Reavey and Niall Dummigan steadied Armagh’s ship though as they could afford to concede Rian Lennon’s frees and still pull up winning at the finish.

Next up for Ciaran McKeever’s charges is a date with Donegal in Round 2 of these provincial qualifiers next Saturday in Ballybofey (throw-in 6pm).
