Meath's Stefan Holzer heads for the Down goal during the Leinster MHC game at Abbotstown.

Meath bounced back from their first round loss to Carlow with a whopping 22-point victory over Down this afternoon in Tier 3 of the Leinster minor hurling championship.

It finished 2-28 to 2-6 in favour of the young Royals at Abbotstown, where Martin Keogh and Cathal McKeown notched goals in either half for the winners.

Keogh’s 20th minute goal helped Meath to lead by 1-11 to 1-5 at the break after Down had got themselves off to the best possible start by hitting an unanswered 1-1 in the opening three minutes.

The Leinster lads regrouped quickly though and the second-half turned into one-way traffic, with full-forward Conor McGovern and Jack Lanigan doing most of the damage.

The scoreboard read 1-24 to 2-6 before McKeown came off the bench to strike a quick 1-1 and put the issue well and truly to bed.

In Tier 1, Kilkenny edged a thrilling encounter against Wexford to come out on top by 3-13 to 2-15.

The Cats had trailed 0-12 to 1-8 at the break but kicked it up a gear after the restart to seal victory at Bellefield, Enniscorthy.

Champions Dublin were far more comfortable in their 1-23 to 1-10 win over Offaly at Parnell Park, with their goal coming from the superb Luke Swan, while Laois dug their deepest late on to hand Kildare defeat on 1-14 to 2-10 score-line in Newbridge.

Adam Kirwan proved the difference between the sides as his brace of points in the 57th and 59th minutes got the visitors over the line in dramatic fashion.

The early game in Abbotstown saw Antrim score an impressive 2-23 to 2-8 win against Westmeath in Tier 2.
