Useful win over Ballynacargy

St Josephs 3-17 Ballynacargy 1-06

We kept up our good league form with a useful win over Ballynacargy at the Community field on Saturday 20th April with the game played in near ideal conditions.

The visitors made an ideal start pointing inside the opening minute from a free but it was the only time they led in the game as St Josephs had much the better of things throughout. A 2-2 burst in a six minute spell after the opening score saw us take control with the goals coming from Alan Conlon and a converted penalty by Dylan Mc Donnell. Successive points from the boot of Ben Mc Donnell kept the scoreboard ticking over and with scores from Ros Elliffe and Dean Slevin we held a 2-8 to 0-2 lead at half time. Ballynacargy as in the opening half, made the better start firing home 1-1 in the opening minutes with the goal from the penalty spot but that was as good as it got as St Josephs kept the pressure on with a number of points which stretched out the lead as the game progressed. A third goal came in the games final minute with Jordan Mc Donnell netting as the game finished with St Josephs claiming a third win from four league outings.

Good performances aplenty on the evening with Ben & Dylan Mc Donnell claiming the scoring awards in this game and though not on the scoreboard wing forward Pearse Weir Norris was instrumental in many of the games pivotal moments. Defence was solid with Mikey Lynam and Andy Conway manning the central areas well while Jake Gannon and Brian Keegan also had good outings. Noah Mc Donnell showed well at midfield but overall there were very few negatives on the evening. Well done guys!

Please note that both games are subject to change and if so, then we will update on our social media channels.

Underage update:

Our various underage teams have been busy over the past couple of weeks with games at all levels.

The Under 12’s have been showing good form with successive wins over Killucan and St Lomans Mullingar at the Community field on Friday and Sunday respectively. The Under 14’s recently had a narrow win over Multyfarnham while the coming week sees games at Under 16 vs Caulry at home on Monday 29th April at 7-30pm; Under 14’s away to Inny Shamrocks in Bunbrosna on Wednesday 1st May at 7-00pm and the Esker Gaels Minors having fixtures on Friday 3rd May away to Coralstown Kinnegad at 7pm and on Sunday 5th May in Streamstown vs New Forest Gaels at 7-00pm. Congratulations to the St Josephs Ladies Under 15’s on winning the County Division 2 feile title on Sunday against Mullingar Shamrocks.

Scór Leinster Champions:

The club’s very talented Set dancers made a very successful foray into a first ever Leinster Senior Scór final on Sunday 21st April and came away as winners to qualify for the All Ireland final which is on Saturday 11th May in Killarney. The ladies who represent St Josephs GAA/LGFA have had a very good few years in Scór nan Óg and at the All Ireland Fleadh so it seems a natural progression to move on to Senior Scór with a degree of confidence. We wish them well for two weeks time and hopefully, the can go the whole way.

Ladies Seniors into league final:

The Ladies Senior team continue to scale the ladder and courtesy of a very good league campaign have qualified for the Division 2 final which will be in a few weeks time. Following on from two championship winning seasons, the consistency of this team is remarkable and testament to the hard work being carried out in developing gaelic football in both wings of St Josephs.
