May 14, 2024

St Marys Maithiu Brien

Boardsmill 0-9 St Marys 3-8

St Marys came away from their visit to Boardsmill with a fully deserved 2 points on Sunday Morning.

The away side started strong and took an early lead, after Sean Nulty got on the end of a slick passing move to palm to the net.

Boardsmill had fashioned some early chances, but some excellent defending from the Marys kept scoring chances to a minimum. Midway through the half St Marys were in for goal again. A probing ball from Adam Craven found the industrious Nulty who was fouled inside the small rectangle. Captain James Lynch stepped up and made no mistake, firing into the top right corner. The home side tagged on a couple of scores before the Marys struck again, a fine Conor O’Brien point was followed by a third goal. Cormac Victory ended up on the end of a counter attacking move, firing low past the Boardsmill keeper to give the Donore/Rosnaree men a comfortable lead heading into the half time break.

The second half seen the teams a lot more evenly matched, with the home side starting to empty their bench in the humid conditions and reeled off some impressive scores. Marys kept the scoreboard ticking through points from Victory, Liam Lynch and Liam O’Brien. Boardsmill narrowed the gap to 3-5 to 0-9 to give the away side a few nervy moments before they kicked for home, with 3 points in a row from Dylan Bagnall, sub Eoin Kelleher and Tadhg McLaughlin, meaning all 3 of the full back line got on the scoreboard. All in all, a good morning for the East Meath men, who welcome Cortown to Donore in Division 10 on Tuesday evening, before welcoming Donaghmore Ashbourne to Donore in Division 6 on Sunday week.
