FL Div 5: Perfect start for the 'Woods' new jerseys

May 12, 2024

Kilmainhamwood's Niall Bennett

Kilmainhamwood 3-16 to Navan O’Mahonys 0-6

On a warm, balmy morning in Kilmainhamwood,  the Wood sporting new jerseys played Navan O'Mahonys.

The Wood were dominant in possession for the first 10 minutes getting it hard to register a score until Shane Townley broke the deadlock. Kilmainhamwood will feel they shouldve had more on the board after a few wides from scoring positions. After that Niall Bennett and a brace of points from Kian Gillespie settled the Wood nerves. Kian Gillespie tagged on a goal. There was a mammoth defensive effort put in from Kilmainhamwood notably Kian Owens, Ciaran Doyle, Killian Russell and Oisin Fagan as it took O’Mahonys 27 minutes to get their score. Another Shane Townley point and 2 more points from Niall Bennett sent Kilmainhamwood in at half time on a score of Kilmainhamwood 1-7 to Navan O’Mahonys 0-1.

The Wood started the second half quicker with a very nice play down the pitch with the ball ending up in Niall Conlans hands who finished with precision to the top corner for a well taken goal. Shane Townley continued his fine scoring form to tag on another point. To really end the game as a contest Paul Carolan made himself available inside to finish another attacking move with a well taken goal. O’Mahonys tagged on 4 more consolation points of their own at this stage. They also got a shot of at goal which was expertly saved by Josh Clarke and cleared away by Oisin Fagan. That done little to stop Kilmainhamwoods momentum with points from Brian Cassidy and Niall Bennett. Alan Carolan and Ray Madden started to make changes with Eoin Rooney, Oisin Reilly, Niall McCabe, Padraic Barber and Callum Crosbie all entering the fray. Eoin Rooney and Oisin Reilly tagged on a point each with Eoin Finnegan getting a score also to finish out Kilmainhamwood scoring on the day.
