Navan O'Mahonys 4-7 Bective 4-2

On a sunny May evening Paddy O'Brien Park hosted the LGFA  u17 division 5 final. Neighbors O'Mahonys and Bective going head to head in front of a big crowd.

The game started at a hectic pace with Bective making the better start quickly scoring 3-1 to establish a 10 point lead after 15 mins. O'Mahonys had chances hitting the cross bar and were denied by some great saves from the Bective goalkeeper.

For the remaining 15 mins of the 1st half the O'Mahonys girls settled into the game. And started to find their rhythm and set about getting some scores. Lauren Skelly opened the scoring with two points, Maria Hangan got a goal and Amy Betson added a point. It meant at half time O'Mahonys had closed the gap to 3 points

Some halftime switches for O'Mahonys saw Orna Maguire move into the full forward line. This quickly paid rewards as Orna calmly dispatched two goals. O'Mahonys had momentum. A point and a goal from Aoibhín Kielty and points from Lauren Skelly and Eva Roe built a lead.

As the game moved into the last 10 mins. Bective came back strong and pulled a goal back and scored a point. But the O'Mahonys defence stood up to the challenge of the Bective pressure for the last few minutes working incredibly hard to limit scores.

The referee blew the final whistle with O'Mahonys taking home the cup with joint captains Anna Killoran and Ava Murray accepting the trophy.

It was an all round brilliant team performance from the O'Mahonys team with all girls contributing to a great win and an entertaining night of football.
