Replying To Lockjaw:  "If we win Ulster:

Donegal
Clare
Tyrone
Cork

If we lose Ulster final:

Galway/Mayo
Donegal
Derry
Westmeath

Winning Ulster is the way to go after all :D :D"
Lose and we'll be back in Celtic Park - our new Ballybofey.

Win
Tyrone at home
Cork away
Clare at neutral venue

Lose
Westmeath at home
Derry away
Galway/Mayo at neutral venue

Replying To Lockjaw:  "It's not ideal. But look if we win Ulster you'd have to fancy us to beat Clare and Cork, regardless of what happens in the Tyrone match"
Exactly and we will have Tyrone at home if we win Ulster.

If we win Ulster on paper the winners of Dgl v Tyr would be favourites to win the group and progress directly to the Q/Fs
If we lose we are potentially in a tougher group on paper but as we know games are never won on paper.
We made the preliminary Q/F last year and hopefully we will match that this year and probably win it but that would mean you would be out 2 weeks on the trot and that had a very big effect on Tyrone and Mayo last year.

I think the best strategy is to keep winning games. All the way to July 28th and beyond! :D

Replying To Al_Maguire:  "I don't think Dublin do in fairness

They get the Connacht losers

And the best seeded 4 team Cavan

if they got Derry or Tyrone it would have been a right group of death"
The Dubs should handily take care of Cavan and Roscommon let's be honest. Playing Mayo or Galway at a neutral venue might not be so handy and a defeat would possibly put them into the preliminary round. So it's not just complete plain sailing. Kerry should coast through.

Do the 4 group winners avoid each other in the Quarter Finals?

Yes I think they are seeded to avoid each at QF stage.

If I was Mayo, I'd much rather a crack at the Dubs in the group stages thereby losing on Sunday v Galway.

You get a crack at the Dubs in final game of group stage in neutral venue (if the GAA call Croke Park neutral, they should be shot)
Win and you are into quarter finals and put Dublin into prelims where they would
A) end up playing potentially Derry or Kerry in quarter final and a fair chance they get the 3rd team from group 1 in a prelim would could mean a tough game v Galway, Derry or Donegal/Armagh first.
B) That would mean Dublin cannot play Mayo in quarter final knockout game and it would also reduce risk of Mayo drawing Derry or Kerry in quarter final too as Group 1 has two big games whereas Dublin group will have two winnable games v Rossies and Cavan (not gimmes but easier)

Lose and its not curtains and again you cannot get Dublin again in quarter final. Worst case scenario is Derry or Kerry in quarters.

Percentage play would be get them when its not all on the line in Croke Park.

I'm surprised the genius's haven't made that draw already too, maybe they have, God knows nothing would surprise me.

I find people have been writing Mayo and Galway off this year, which is a big mistake, as both sides are getting players back from injury and can cause anyone problems.

Replying To Scenicparish:  "I think a few are getting ahead of themselves. The Ulster Final will be the only thing on Jim's mind and rightly so.
IF we win Ulster then the Groups will take care of themselves.
The bounce we get IF we win Ulster will put us in a great position and I feel then we will be in bonus territory as far as the rest of the season is concerned."
Think JMcG would agree, he will focus on winning the Anglo Celt. Winning Ulster secures two cups which would make it a good year already as well as putting you in a more favourable group (on paper at any rate) .. Cork away and Tyrone in fortress Ballybofey wouldn't be easy but manageable.
The big bonus of winning your group is a free recovery week end , the other 8 teams face a gruelling prospect of playing 3 successive week ends ( final group stage match, preliminary quarter final and a quarter final) .. I think Monaghan were the only prelim winners to win a quarter final in 2023 overcoming Armagh on pens.

Away from the county scene the club leagues are in full swing. Any interesting stories or emerging players to comment on? We'll probably see the usual exodus of young lads to the US in the next few weeks as colleges finish up and J1 season kicks in. Speaking on that, does anyone have a link to the transfers tracker? I went looking for it on the GAA website one day and couldn't find it. Always interesting to see who has made a move, even if it is only a temporary one.

Its on this page.. https://www.gaa.ie/the-gaa/rules-regulations/transfers-and-sanctions
There's a link in there under 'Live Inter-County Transfer List'. It opens a spreadsheet with all transfers in it.
