Replying To WanPintWin:  "Agree with all of that except the last bit. Intercounty Gaelic Football is well up there in terms of distances covered by players, % of sprints or high speed runs etc.
That aside, I'd absolutely be starting Shane Walsh if he's fit."
I tend to agree with you. When Shane throws over a point after gliding past a couple of players, he makes it seems so easy that maybe we don't appreciate it enough at times. Even when he is out of the game he still can clip over scores that are not easy for most players i.e. point against Sligo.

Players that can beat a man are vital. Opposition have to double up on them and that in turn opens up space for others. So the more players in the team that can beat a man the better.

All that being said, his form last year was terrible as was his work rate. He definitely put a hard shift in against Mayo and by doing that he got into the game eventually and had a big impact. If his injury is ok I would start him.

Definitely a starter if fit. The problem with a quad injury is that it's easily aggravated. Therefore, no way would I play him at centre forward.
My starting forward line would be:
Heaney, Maher, D'arcy
Finnerty, Comer, Walsh

Team named, Cian Heron on the bench, big surprise that Cathal Sweeney is on the extended panel, is he injured?

We had a 40 man panel last season, seem to have a 38 man panel so far this season, just curious to see if they plan on trying to integrate the two lads back in. Personally I think it would be no harm to have them in training, but I'd be shocked if either of them were able to make matchday 26 given they have missed so much."
In the words of the great Manuel from Fawlty Towers "I know nothing"….great to see Hernon back.

Does anyone have a list of the full panel this year?

Sweeney does have an injury. He had a knock coming off against Mayo.

Great to see Hernon back.

I think someone said Sweeney was hobbling before being taken off against Mayo. Can't imagine he wouldn't be on the bench at least if fit as he can cover multiple positions.

Big opportunity for us tomorrow night.

Score hugely flattered Derry in the league. We had 2 easy goal chances missed and from both we ended up conceding a goal and a black card. Huge swings in the game.

Agree on the league match, we were right in it until some bad misses on our end and some questionable calls by the ref. It would be a huge match for us to win tomorrow, winner will be in prime position to top the group and a bye straight into the QF.

Think the team selection is spot on more or less, main thing is to cut down on the number of easy turnovers from the Mayo game. Derry will not be as wasteful upfront if given similar shooting chances.

Should certainly be capable of keeping it kicked out to them, with the squad rounding into a bit of shape at last.

I like the look of that team - it has a settled look to it. This is very important in the development of ANY team. From the extended/stand by panel, imo, there are nine players who have the required qualities to significantly add to the process:
C. Flaherty, D. O'Flaherty, C. Hernon, K. Molloy, M. Tierney, C. McDaid, T. Culhane, S. O'Neill, C Sweeney.
Has to be Galway.
Galway 1-16
Derry 1-14
Man of match: J. Maher

Good team named. Daly needs to hold that centre back position a bit more. Feels like he can be got at with a bit of running, if he's up the field he's not the fastest to get back and plug the centre.
Hopefully we can play like we did in the last twenty minutes against mayo. Good direct play, no faffing and always looking to cut holes
Things can be easily forgotten when a team wins by the skin of their teeth. Mayo had so many handy shooting chances in the first half which their backs turned down, it would've been no surprise if they were 6 up at half time.
My biggest worry tomorrow is Derry flying out of the traps. We tend to be slow starters. We could be chasing a 5 point lead for the whole match if we're not careful, or if we're wasteful.

Galway with their strongest hand where they wanted to be for the start of the All Ireland series. I'm expecting a home win and if achieved should go on to top the group so long as don't mess up against Armagh again. One can't underestimate the importance of topping the group and getting two week prep time for the All Ireland Quarter avoiding that play off match.

Be interesting to see what team Derry team will line out with. Mickey Harte known for dummy teams and handful he has named to start are carrying injuries and according to some Derry folks won't play.

In fairness to team management, that's probably the strongest starting team that's match fit and ready to go.

I wouldn't be atall surprised if at least 2 are held back on bench though as otherwise its hard to see who is going to come on and have a big impact if we are chasing the game ? Daniel Flaherty maybe ? Or Tierney around the middle ? Is it a big ask for McDaid to come back with an immediate impact ? The rest of the bench look very inexperienced or out of form.
I hope I'm proved very wrong !

A bit surprised tierney not starting hard see Maher starting center forward either personally I think looking at the team not a very balanced one Maher or Darcy not forwards Kelly not a midfielder hard see between, mchugh, Daly ,silke , Kelly conroy, heaney, Maher and Darcy getting more than 4 scores between the 8 of them , hoping I'm wrong , still can't understand how one of our best defenders who was nominated for 3 All stars in defense is midfield and don't be surprised if he ends up in forwards yet ,, still I'm looking forward to match should be good game and will show Whete we are ,,

For those interested the Derry team tomorrow is named as:

Odhran Lynch

Conor McCluskey
Chrissy McKaigue
Diarmuid Baker

Gareth McKinless(possibly Donncha Gilmore could start)
Eoin McEvoy(possibly McKinless starts here)
Conor Doherty

Conor Glass
Brendan Rogers

Ethan Doherty
Ciaran McFaul
Paul Cassidy

Niall Toner
Shane McGuigan
Lachlan Murray

Padraig McGrogan is out for the season and is a big loss to us. McEvoy and McKinless starting together doesn't make a lot of sense. Gilmore is the natural replacement for McGrogan so don't be surprised if he starts. This is going to be a really close contest and I really hate playing Galway in Championship. We haven't really taken a big scalp in the All Ireland series over the last few years. We need big performances from key men on Saturday night to buck that trend.

Bring in Tierney, McDaid which are two powerful subs to have. Kieran Molloy is also well capable of upping his game. We will need a goal or two to win. Our goal chances have been frustrated to date but we are creating the chances and at some stage those chances will go in. Hopefully on Saturday. Looks like a fine dry evening with light wind.
