Moynalvey's John Donoghue

Moynalvey suffered their first defeat of the PMC Physiotherapy Div. 9 football league with host side Slane winning out 3-12 to 2-7 in this round six encounter played at Toddy Harding Park Slane on Tuesday night 14th May.

Slane 3-12 Moynalvey 2-7

Things just got a bit tighter at the top of the PMC Physiotherapy Div. 9 League table, with Slane’s victory here combined with St. Ultans win over Moynalty meaning three teams are now tied at the top with six games played.

Slane led this game from start to finish, with Des Teeling’s side racing out of the blocks blitzing Moynalvey for 1-2 within the opening ten minutes.

Moynalvey eventually got on the score sheet with a Craig Gilsenan point in the 10th minute, which was followed up soon after with an Alan Donnelly point, leaving the score board read 1-2 to 0-2 with twelve minutes played.

Conor Forde and Barry Walsh traded points before Matthew McLean struck for Slane’s second goal in the 23rd minute, leaving it 2-3 to 0-3.

A Craig Gilsenan point along with a well struck goal from John Donoghue with the left peg to the top corner of Evan Burlingham’s goal narrowed the deficit. Two further Slane scores left the score board read 2-5 to 1-4 in favour of Des Teeling’s side when referee Paul Mooney blew for half time.

Just as they did in the first half, Slane were first out of the blocks with a quick fire brace of points within the opening two minutes of the second half.

Moynalvey were given some hope when somehow Craig Gilsenan managed to bundle the ball past Evan Burlingham from an acute angle for his side’s second goal, leaving a kick of the ball between the sides, 2-7 to 2-4 with eight minutes of the second half gone.

Niall Carolan and James O’Neill traded points before 1-4 without reply for the home side, the goal from Matthew Kealy finally put the game to bed, Slane now ten points up with five minutes remaining, 3-12 to 2-5.

A late brace of Moynalvey consolation points from Barry Walsh saw Slane run out well deserved eight point winners on a 3-12 to 2-7 score line.

Next up for Moynalvey is a round seven home game against Drumbaragh on Monday 27th May.
