Gaeil Colmcille 0-11 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 4-14

Gaeil Colmcille suffered their third defeat in a row in the PR Coyne Division 1 Football League with a heavy defeat at the hands of Donaghmore/Ashbourne.

The opening 10 minutes was the most even of the game and it was the home side that had applied all the pressure and accounted for the first score with Andrew Gormley picking up from where he left off on Friday evening with an excellent score. A number of wides was followed by the Kells side before Donaghmore/Ashbourne drew level. The second third of the opening half was dominated by the visitors as they struck 1-03 to no reply.

A free from Brian Hanlon stopped the rot for The Gaeils but The Moore's restored their six point lead with an advanced mark in the 24th minute. Hanlon added a second free followed by a well worked move that resulted in Jonny Quigley pointing with his left foot. The sides shared the next four scores with Gormley adding his second and Liam Ferguson pointing to leave four between the teams. Donaghmore/Ashbourne got the final score of the half in the sixth minute of first half injury time to see them take a 1-08 to 0-06 lead at the break.

Barry Tormay opened Kells account in the second half with an sweetly struck point from an acute angle to spur on Gaeil Colmcille. The Moore's response was emphatic as they grabbed their second goal of the game after a scramble in the Kells square resulted in the umpire raising the green flag. Donaghmore/Ashbourne added two points from play to stretch the lead to nine points with 37 minutes played. Hanlon added a third free while Seamus Mattimoe got a ninth point for Kells with a well struck effort.

The lead was cut to six points thanks to two more Brian Hanlon frees but any hope of a comeback was dashed when Donaghmore/Ashbourne found the net for the third time in the game. Donaghmore/Ashbourne punished Kells further with two points and in the 63rd minute hit their fourth goal of the game with the final kick of the game to take the two points on offer and with that climb to the top of the Division 1 table. For Gaeil Colmcille, after a positive start to the campaign the loss leaves them third from bottom ahead of Navan sides Simonstown and Navan O'Mahonys.
