Ladies Div 7 FL: Rangers on top in high scoring encounter

Dee Rangers 5-14 Skryne 1-15

Dee Rangers travelled to Skryne on Sunday evening to fulfil round 7 of the Division 7 league. 

Skryne midfield won the throw up and gave a quick ball into centre forward Abbie Donnelly who made a direct run down the centre of the pitch and slotted the ball over the bar. Midfielder Sarah Pentony won the subsequent Dee Ranger kick out and scored an excellent long distance point. Skryne continued to pile on the pressure, attacking in numbers, full forward Ruth Moore was fouled and converted the free. 

Dee Rangers won their kick out and moved the ball up the field, a well worked pass into Eimear McCluskey led to a Dee Ranger free which was confidently scored by Grace Carry.

McCluskey was on the attack again just two minutes later and scored an excellent long distance point. Dee Rangers won the next kick out and gave a quick ball into Jodie Loughran, Loughran was fouled and the free was taken quickly, a short pass into Carry who spotted Megan O’ Rourke on the far win. Megan scored a great point, the scoreboard read Dee Rangers 0-03 Skryne 0-03. 

Skryne’s Abbie Donnelly got on the ball again and charged at the Dee Ranger defence, there was no stopping her and she scored an excellent point from play. Donnelly won the next Dee Ranger kick out and again headed directly for the Dee Ranger goals, she made no mistake and put the ball over the crossbar. 

Dee Ranger midfielder Ellen Cassidy won the kick out and gave an excellent pass to centre half forward Hannah Carolan. Carolan carried the ball forward and fed Jodie Loughran a perfect pass, Loughran took on two Skryne defenders and floated a hand pass into the square, Eimear McCluskey read the pass well and palmed the ball into the back of the net. Dee Rangers 1-03 Skryne 0-05. 

Wing back Emma Carry won the Skryne kick out and passed the ball into Megan O'Rourke who scored a point from the 40 yard line. Skryne were on the attack again and it resulted in a free, the free dropped short and Ciara McGuire reacted quickest and popped the ball over the bar. 

Ellen Cassidy won the Dee Ranger kick out and gave a one - two, to her centre back Áine Byrne, Cassidy and Byrne worked the ball up the field to Hannah Carolan who scored an excellent point. 

Áine Byrne overturned a Skryne attack and carried the ball up the field, she passed to Hannah Carolan who fisted the ball into the path of the oncoming Jodie Loughran, Loughran confidently hit the ball on the volley and scored an excellent goal. 

Skryne continued to attack and scored three more points in the next few minutes. Dee Rangers scored one more point from a free before the half time whistle. 

Half time score: Dee Rangers 2-07, Skryne 0-09. 

The second half continued at the same fast pace as the first half. Skryne again were first on the scoreboard, with three  points, two from the accurate free taker Ruth Moore and one from play from Aisling Kelleghar. 

Dee Rangers defence were strong and captain Molly O’Rourke was leading by example with some excellent dispossessions and blocks. Dee Rangers went short with their next kick out and Cassidy worked the ball up the field, there was some excellent passing and the ball was fed into Jodie Loughran who got her second goal of the evening. 

The score was now Dee Rangers 3-08 Skryne 0-12. 

Skryne were on the attack again and an unfortunate slip by a Dee Ranger led to a Skryne goal. Spurred on by the goal Skryne scored an excellent point from play. 

Dee Rangers 3-08 Skryne 1-13 and everything to play for, for both sides. 

Substitute Grace Durnin was only on the pitch when she scored her first point from play. Sarah Duff won the Skryne kick out and fed the ball into Jodie Loughran, Jodie made no mistake and drilled the ball into the Skryne net. 

Forwards Grace Durnin and Abbie Donnelly both recorded points for their teams. 

McNulty won the Dee Ranger kick out and passed the ball quickly into the path of Megan Malone, Malone fed Jodie Loughran a quick ball and Loughran fired it home for her fourth goal of the game. 

Jodie was on target again and almost got her fifth of the evening but credit to Skryne goal keeper Coleen Jordan who pulled off a superb save. Dee Rangers recorded a further two points and the final whistle was blown.

Final score Dee Rangers 5-14 Skryne 1-15. Credit to both teams on a high tempo, high scoring game of football.
