Does Ulster Championship Benefit Ulster Teams?

Replying To oneoff:  "What exactly are you "calling out"?

You Ulster lads really are something else. You honestly believe a lot of people from Ulster don't look down on Munster? How many times is the line "if Kerry were in Ulster they wouldn't win All-Irelands"? Or are you going to try and claim that doesn't happen?

Wow again talking about delusion on a thread about Ulster's self hype. Again imagine someone from Dublin or Kerry stating something similar saying they were at a "disadvantage".

As I've said the non stop playing the victim card by the likes of you and others from Ulster has got boring at this stage. I won't be replying to you anymore as all you're interested in is playing said card"
Perhaps if we engage on here again you might want to address me on an individual level as I did with you instead of referring to "you lot up there" say this about all teams down there. It won't bog you down a rabbit hole quite as quickly. Just food for thought. Adiós

It's probably the same most counties."
Certainly from a competitive stand point nobody wants to see the same counties lift Sam/Liam every year. So your right to suggest that most people would want the 3 mentioned counties to lose out against any other county. But I think you see a difference in the reaction to those 3 winning AI's to that of say Donegal or Tyrone winning one. Business as usual for Kerry or Dublin but dire tactics or wrong spirit etc tend to get thrown at Donegal or Tyrone despite half the country (sometimes including the big guns) copying them or trying to. I'd rather take the stand point that whoever wins an All Ireland fully deserves it. Full stop, no excuses.

Armagh have won 7 ulsters since Clare won the Munster hurling. Not sure how you'd count them as a team that can win Munster before Armagh as a team that can win Ulster.

Agree with most of that, but the anyone but Dublin thing was also there before they started winning all Irelands.

Think you are missing a few of the messages. This timeline was picked as previously a Galway poster suggested Galway were better than ulster teams. I highlighted that since Galway last one an AI there were 3 different ulster teams who have won AIs since then.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I thought Tyrone 2003-2008 were a superb side to watch, and won one of the greatest all-ireland championships ever played in 2005. That side was so good that they were able to knock off a very successful Kerry side in 2003, 2005 and 2008 in huge crunch semi and finals encounters.

Believe it or not, but I actually had a soft spot for the Dubs before they became a winning machine under Jim Gavin. I remember the heartbreak of 94 against Down and although they beat a team going for their first AI a year later (Tyrone) I was happy to see so many of that team get over the line and lift Sam. Similarly in 2010 semi vs Cork, they looked like they had the beating of them but lost late on quite unexpectedly. I was definitely cheering them on a year later against Kerry and the drama of Cluxton's kick etc was special at that time. But obviously when it became a formality to them I was hoping anyone, including Kerry, would find a way to beat them. Swings and roundabouts for me anyway.

Tyrone and Kerry in that decade were very worthy rivals and had some legendary battles. Tyrone won more head to heads in big matches while Kerry won back to backs in 06 and 07. 2005 final was the epicenter of that rivalry. Both sides bursting with talent and honours all the way from minor to senior. I've never seen Ulster football as popular as it was back then. They even put the Ulster final in Croker for a while due to demand from Tyrone and Armagh supporters mostly. Hopefully we can see more teams become contenders for the AI just like they emerged back then. Definitely a better championship when it's less predictable.

With 6 different winners in the past 16 years Ulster is the most competitive province and the most difficult to predict. On the other hard Dublin and Kerry win the majority of All Irelands. Similarly Munster championship is the most competitive in hurling yet Cody's Kilkenny won most All Irelands for a 15 year period before Limerick took over.
I wouldnt agree with posters like Temple56 that "the 9 Ulster teams have no chance of winning an All Ireland". Ulster counties have won 6 All Irelands this century alone ( 25% being a fair share from one of 4 provinces) . I think one reason why an Ulster title has currency is that with the exception of Cavan (40 titles) , the other 7 have an average of 12-13 titles … even less if you include Fermanagh. Donegal recently won their 11th title in 140 years which is a cause of celebration for them.
I enjoy matches in both codes from different provinces and am struggling at the need to big up one's own province and criticise another. Many of us would have shared some of the joy with Leitrim (94) , Clare (92), Tipperary (20) Kildare(98), Westmeath (03), Laois (04) ,Down(91), Donegal (92) , Derry (93) , Armagh(02), Tyrone (03), Galway(98) and not forgetting hurling with Clare (95), Wexford(96), Galway(17), Limerick (18) ,Offaly (80s/90s)…. Am sure all of us could add to this list. I would love to see Fermanagh get over the line in Ulster , a Waterford/Dublin win in hurling and Oh to be in Castlebar for a homecoming. Let's continue to enjoy our games for what they are worth and good luck to your team this Summer.
